Mickey Mouse will weave classic stories into one magical tale at the Disney on Ice show Wednesday through Feb. 10 at the Baltimore Arena, 201 W. Baltimore St. Popular stories such as Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 101 Dalmatians and The Little Mermaid will come to life on the ice, accompanied by well-known Disney melodies, including “Whistle While You Work,” “Someday My Prince Will Come” and “Under the Sea.” The production features ice-skating champions from around the world. A ‘Scots / Irish Celebration’
Scottish folk tunes and Irish music from the 16th through 18th centuries will fill Peabody Institute’s Friedberg Hall when the Baltimore Consort presents a “Scots / Irish Celebration” at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Using such ancient instruments as the viols, cittern, lute, pennywhistle, bagpipes and bodhran, the early-music ensemble will devote the first half of the program to popular Scottish numbers and the second half to more traditional Celtic-sounding Irish music. ‘Looking Forward / Looking Black’
From Bill Traylor’s 1940s folk-art drawings to Beverly McIver’s self-portraits in blackface and Renee Cox’s superhero liberation of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben, the ways that African-Americans have been portrayed in art, mass media and 20th-century pop culture will be examined in an exhibit opening Wednesday at the Baltimore Museum of Art, Art Museum Drive at North Charles Street. On view through May 5, the exhibition Looking Forward / Looking Black includes 45 paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures by more than 20 artists. Chenille Sisters at Rams Head
They perform with the Boston Pops one night, a Chicago jazz band the next, and then they’re off to a folk festival in Texas. And on Saturday, the versatile Chenille Sisters will be at the Rams Head Tavern, 33 West St. in Annapolis, where they’ll perform airtight harmonies and quirky comedy beginning at 7 p.m. Also appearing will be Modern Man, a group of three singers known for bridging the gap between the Three Tenors and the Three Stooges.
